Contoh Naskah Pidato Bahasa Inggris

Dear Teachers,

Ini adalah salah satu contoh naskah pidato Bahasa Inggris yang disampaikan pada Speech Contest yang diadakan oleh STAIN Palopo bulan Mei 2010 kemarin. Temanya tentang HIV/AIDS.

Assalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb.
The honorable adjudicators of English Speech Contest,
The honorable teachers,
The honorable participants,
The honorable audiences,

First of all, let us praise the Almighty Allah SWT, because of His blessings we are able to attend this English speech contest. Secondly, may peace be upon the prophet Muhammad SAW who has guided us from the darkness into the brightness.

I also would like to say thank you very much to the master of ceremony who has given me opportunity to deliver an English speech in front of you all.

Ladies and gentlemen…

Allow me to deliver my speech entitled: How to Reduce the Risk of HIV Infection.

At school we have studied about Human Immunodeficiency Virus or better known by its acronym HIV. Many sources mention that HIV is a virus that destroys infection-fighting “T” cells in the body. HIV infection causes Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, or AIDS in short, that is a condition that results when infection with HIV causes a breakdown of the body’s ability to fight other infections.

Dear audiences,

The question needs to be answered right now : do you want to risk becoming infected with HIV? If the answer is NO, then how to reduce the risk of HIV infection? If you want to live a long, productive, and healthful life, then you have to assure and make a strong commitment in your self to choose behaviors to reduce your risk of HIV infection.

Ladies and gentlemen,

First thing you should do is to get to know with HIV. You should understand that there are ways HIV is spread. HIV can be spread from infected persons to others by having sexual contact, sharing a needle, syringe, or other injection equipment, sharing a needle to make tattoos or to pierce ears or other body parts, having contact with the blood or other body fluids, mucous membranes, or broken skin, and the worst being born to a mother who is infected with HIV. But you should note that HIV is not spread through closed mouth kissing, hugging, touching, holding or shaking hands, sharing food or eating utensils.

Dear brothers and sisters,

The next thing you should do to reduce the risk of HIV infection is by practicing abstinence. You know, abstinence is a term that is used for the attitude of choosing NOT to be sexually active. The obvious and logical reason why practicing abstinence protects you from HIV infection because you could become infected with HIV if you have sex with a person who is infected with HIV. A male who is infected with HIV has HIV in his semen, while a female who is infected with HIV has HIV in her vaginal secretions. You can become infected with HIV if you have sex with someone who has HIV. You cannot tell by just looking at people if they are infected with HIV because they can appear healthy, they might not know that they have HIV, or they might know but they just don’t want to admit it.

Dear audiences,

The third thing to do to reduce the risk become infected with HIV is to say NO to drug use and alcohol. Why? Reason number one is because you could become infected with HIV if you share a needle, syringe, or injection equipment that has been used by a person who is infected with HIV. HIV-infected blood can remain on injection equipments this person uses. If you then use the equipments, the HIV-infected blood will get into your body and no doubt you’ll get infected soon.
Second reason is because you could become infected with HIV if you drink alcohol or use other drugs. Drugs and alcohol can affect the part of your brain used for clear thinking and reasoning. You could make a wrong decision and, as a result, have sex with someone who is infected with HIV.

Ladies and gentlemen,

I have proposed three things to do to reduce the risk of HIV infected. It is your choice to start from your self to be confident and say “NO, I don’t want to risk becoming infected with HIV”. Assert your self that you will NOT be sexually active and that you will NOT be involved in injecting drugs and alcohol. Stay away from situations in which you think you might be pressured to have sex, to use injecting drugs, or to drink alcohol.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I think that’s all my speech. Hopefully it will be useful for all of us. Thank you very much for your attention.
Wassalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb.
